Ekorrar och kyssar lär dig uttala V och W korrekt
I svenskan stavar vi Wärdshus och Waxholm med "w" och uttalar det med enkel-v. När vi sen pratar engelska är det lätt att hamna fel i uttalet; som med "Very welcome" till exempel, det ska vara enkelt v på första ordet och "w" på andra. För många blir det ofta en mix av allt; "wery welcome" eller "wery velcome". Här bjuder vi på ett bra tips för att uttala rätt.
Chapter 3 - Dubbavju - Mr & Mis Understanding
“Dubbelvju, doubleview, dubbaju or double you?” 

K – When I need to use words with double-u I always remember my English teacher from sixth grade in school. She always told us “you need to look like a squirrel with big teeth when you pronounce “v” and as if you are going to kiss someone when you pronounce a word with “w”. In the sixth grade it was still very exciting to talk about kisses so we all got embarrassed – but I still remember how to pronounce it. 
M – It certainly does seem a good way to describe how you pronounce them. “V” is distinct and you need to stick your teeth out. “W” – is a totally different sound. I don’t believe that all Swedes are aware of this. I often hear people do quite the opposite. They tend also to confuse the two. 
K – Yes, you mean when people say “Vait a minute”or “Wery well” and “Wery Velcome” for instance? 
M- Exactly!
K - Well, haha, maybe they felt so embarrassed in school they didn’t dare to try and form the mouth as you need when saying “W” the right way! And as a result of this, they learned it the wrong way.
But actually Mike – why not talk a bit about double-u. Web site addresses for instance – do I really have to say “double-u, double-u, double-u” when I give someone a web address – it takes forever!” 
M – Well, you could do that, but I think it is much easier to use the expression “Triple – double-u”. In fact, I would recommend that. Sometimes, people just leave off the double-u’s. For example, my own address: engelskacoach.se. We are seeing this solution more and more. Remember also that “V” and “W” are interchangeable in Swedish, e.g. Waxholm or Vaxholm, but in English, they are treated quite separately and distinctly.

A useful hint from Mike:

The best and really only way to work with this issue is by regular and constant drilling. Pick out words that start with V and W and start by reading them and then repeat them over and over again, as you would have done in primary school. Learn to see the word in your mind and make the distinction between words beginning with W and those beginning with V. Get friends to help you out and correct you rigorously. Be clear that these are two separate letters in English.
