Chapter 14
Intro
K - Okay Mike, this will be a different kind of pod than we’ve done earlier. This time we go in for more of a discussion and there are a few things I’d like to check with you – and I need some advice.
For instance; when I go to London, I normally talk to cab drivers a lot, but always feel a bit like I don’t know what I am talking about and if I want to go there now and ask one of them:
0:40 - Is it okay to open up a discussion about Brexit with a cab driver in Great Britain?
- Mike explains how most British cabbies would react.
2.02 – And what about talking about Brexit in a business meeting?
- It is a different situation. Mike explains.
4.0 – Is it even okay to discuss politics if I am in a business meeting regarding something else?
- Always try and steer clear of problems and when in doubt – don’t. Be yourself with a little thought; engage brain, before opening mouth, Mike hints.
6.05 – Smart way to avoid taking a stand: ask questions.
6.50 – Wrapping up.
Outro.
A useful hint from Mike:
Beyond some good advice in this pod, it is also perfect to use as a practice for conversation and as a listening comprehension (övning i hörförståelse). The subject of Brexit is rather difficult and multifaceted but don’t let that prevent you from being curious and inquisitive when you meet British people. Remember; practice makes perfect.
